Royal Family KIDS Camp Blog 6 Friday

Last day of camp. Time to pack, clean and get ready to return home. Many good things at camp: cabins, grandma & grandpa, counselors, kitchen staff, director, castaway cats, drama team and adventure. We learned today how a bulb can turn into a pretty flower. God makes bad into good. If a stream has a log get stuck, then a second will pile up and a third. Not forgiving can cause a bad pile up. Our puppets went on a hike looking for birds. Not far into the woods they got lost and had no idea how to find their way back. Proverbs 3 : 5&6 was the answer. Another example of bad into good was the doctors giving a shot. Serum or syrup, maple or not, is a weak disease, and our body is stronger. Again bad into good so we do not get sick.

Each camper got an award certificate and the 11 year olds graduated with cap and diploma. Great sack lunch, motorcycles and good byes. Prayer on the bridge for campers safe travel.

A very good camp.

Welcome home dinner was great with slide show from camp and good stories. Prayer circle released the campers with prayer.

Royal Family KIDS Camp Blog 4 Wednesday

Breakfast Club was based on Matthew 10 : 30. We can try to count the hairs on our heads, which is very difficult, but God knows because he made us and has made a loving plan for us. New puppets- Rosetta, Angle, Patrick and Tony. Zachariah was a short man with a lot of money. He was not good until he met Jesus. God has plans even for short people. Trying to build a toy tractor did not work well until we read the directions. God gave us parts and the Bible has the directions. Kids got kits to build. Some followed directions and others used the new parts to customize their pinewood derby cars. Lunch was a hit with chicken nuggets, real mac and cheese with salad bar. Hogel Zoo brought 5 animals to show the boys. Very good explanation of where they live and how they survive.

Back to Snokey and the cats. She could not find any meow mix in the forest. Where would she find some friends? She finds the mousetrap family who also needs food because of the alley cats. Snokey was a cast away cat who did not do anything wrong and the mousetrap family takes her in and will share the little food they have. What will the other mice say about a cat living with them? Grandpa mouse, Harlan was great for the part as an injured mouse wearing an ankle splint with tie-dye red, black and blue on his knee. Dinner was another hit with manwich, pasta, salad bar and watermelon.

Pastor Jeff from Our Savior’s reviewed what big things God has made. Joseph in jail trusted that God would save him. God gave him the power to tell what dreams meant. This power pleased the King and again Joseph was elevated to a good position.

Tonight was the indescribable talent show. The everywhere bear did tricks and gave hugs, we heard the story of the three bears in English accent with many great inflections, and the RFKC grandmas did Over the Rainbow in camp style.

Another great day at camp. Camper quote of the day “I am glad my brother is having a good time”.

Royal Family KIDS camp Blog 5 Thursday

Morning lesson was God telling us to forgive and to not carry the weight of hate. Forgive and give the burden to God. Our puppets had the boys being rude on the playground and their behavior was like animals. Rosetta got bumped which hurt her feelings. Revenge was derailed when the boys thought about what happened and said they were sorry. Joseph also had some bad times. People were unfair, however un-forgiveness smells like vinegar, and grows like a weed to choke us. To dig out the bitterness we need God’s love.

Now Joseph read the meaning of 7 fat cows giving 7 years of good crops and the 7 lean cows as 7 years of bad crops. When the famine hit, Egypt had stored food and Joseph’s family in Canaan were hungry. As a result, Joseph’s family moved to Egypt and Joseph forgave them. God made bad into good. Joseph was living in a place he did not choose, but God had a plan.

Lunch was great burritos.

Afternoon was a great birthday party. Games, balloons, and bounce house followed by cheeseburgers and chips. Kids got cupcakes with their pictures on them. The City Cats Not-Prime Players finished their story. Snookey was missed by the city cats country club. They admitted they were snobs because they did not welcome the Alley Cats. Snookey got them to accept one another and like them as they are. The new club became the Cast Away Cats. We are all the same in God’s eye.

Pastor Christine pointed out at camp we have all kinds of different people. Each person has a job and a roll to make camp run smoothly. When we are confronted with a person in rage, we should be calm. God sent Jesus to bring peace on earth. Jesus died to set us free. All should remember love from camp this week.

Royal Family Tues Blog 3

So Tuesday was a full day! Some kids were still up at mid-night but did finally go to sleep. They were the ones that had to be waked up. Others needed bathroom at 5 AM.

Going back to Monday we did have fishing with Lindy, planes with Don, games and badminton. Major build project was pinewood derby cars with both girls and boys. Starting to get male mentors signing up for club and working on matching club kids and mentors. Today we met a new puppet Bunsey. She super glued her hands behind her back, put on earmuffs and was blind folded in order to do, hear or see anything bad. Result was nothing bad but also nothing good. God wants us to do good and choose the right things.

Slim Annie and Ms. Dee gave us God’s traffic light. Red, yellow and green. Holy sprit helps us with the yellow! And back to Joseph, kids were asked what did Joseph loose when he was sold as a slave. Coat, family, home, bed, freedom, identity, trust in brothers were the items from the kids. Gee does this sound like foster care! Back to the story, Joseph gets sold again in Egypt to Potiphar. He becomes the best slave, gets put in charge of Potiphar’s operation. Again just as things are going well Joseph was not tempted by Potiphar’s wife but was falsely accused and landed in jail. Again his trust in God is tested.

Lesson ended with Proverbs 3 5&6. GHAP- God Has A Plan.

Lunch was open roast beef sandwich, harsh browns and salad bar.

Non-prime time players came back with an x city cat from the country club. Now she was too sweet for the alley cats as they tried to bully her into doing bad things to join their city cats alley cat club. So she stood up to them and was a lone again, a cast away cat!

Dinner was spaghetti, French bread, salad bar and watermelon.

Chapel talk was from Pastor Jeff. He reviewed learning to do the right thing and red-yellow-green. Suggestion was to have a cross in your pocket or just look for a cross to help guide actions. Even Jesus was tempted in the garden but trusted in God. He used the king forgiving 5 million dollar debt and the debtor not forgiving the 500-dollar debt. The king was not happy when he found out. God wants you to have mercy and love one another. Forgiveness is the right thing to do.

New games were rocket chase and pine wood car racing.

Camper comments today: Best thing about this camp- Jesus is here! Also heard “I will never leave this bear” and bear was at the pool.

Royal Family KIDS Camp Blog 2 Monday

Kids arrived with great fanfare. Bus had to detour due to road construction but made it just fine. Great group of kids! Lunch was great, grilled cheese and salad. We heard more about Jacob’s 12 sons from Genesis. Joseph had the coat of many colors, tattle tailed on his brothers and was the favorite. He told his bothers about his dream to be king. So the jealous brothers dug a pit and threw Joseph into the pit. When you are down (like in a pit) things do not look good. The brothers planned to kill him but Rubin did not go with the others. Joseph was spared but sold for 8 ounces of silver. Kim R. took Jesus to a new level. Give me a J, a E, a S, a U, a S and what do you have JESUS. You know how loud it got! We got our first visit from our cats. One cat in the elite crowd family had to move to the other side of the tracks. So now being common, she got kicked out because of moving and bad friends. Went from top cat to alley cat. The story will continue. Dinner was salad, chicken breast, and baked potato.

Speaker tonight was “Billy Bob Sled”. He had lived in 17 foster homes but competed in 3 Olympics and did earn a silver metal- the new gold! His message was based on Luke 1:37. With God anything is possible. Encouraged PMA, Positive Mental Attitude. Be driven by “today I will give everything I can be”. Believe in yourself, Royal Family KIDS Camp believes in you. Have a goal-go for it!

Royal Family KIDS Camp Update, Pre-camp

Sunday Pre-camp Royal Family KIDS Camp GSLC 2011

As always quilts and staff were blessed at Good Shepherd. All equipment and personnel arrived at camp safely. First tasks were to set up stations and prepare for campers. This includes mail system, decorations, signs, bears, quilts, wrist bands and goodie bags. Dinner was lasagna, salad, French bread and ice cream. Christine Nelson conducted opening service. Her inspiration has started camp on a high. This time in closing communion she “really meant it this time”. What a closing! Staff was introduced and basic camp rules were reviewed. New staff was welcomed. Kim R. proceeded to cliff-note Joseph’s story in 3 minutes, 46 seconds and 3 breaths. Only causality was the baker.

We have officially signed up the first male mentor for club. Work will continue to accommodate all the camp kids who would like to stay with us during the school year.

We are blessed with another great camp and faithful staff. Let the good times roll!!
